Alicia Cuglietta, new member of the #LVHFCoC and owner of Down Dog Diagnostics LLC, is a professional certified Yoga therapist. To those that have experienced yoga may know intrinsically that yoga is good for you in more ways than as a physical outlet for better health. It seems that yoga as a therapeutic tool is not something hard to wrap our brains around but yoga in a big gym has never left me feeling like I just left my own personal therapy session. To get to a place where yoga can ‘heal what ails you’, you may need professional guidance, diagnostic assessment and a treatment plan. I am pleased to share Alicia’s journey from yoga newbie to veteran instructor Alicia Cuglietta, ERYT500, PYT1000, CES, TIYT professional.
Her yoga journey began when she took her oldest son to an art workshop that was held in a yoga studio in Cedar City, UT. The moment she walked in, everything about the place spoke to her. She found it intriguing and familiar somehow. Unfortunately at the time there was no extra money for yoga classes or babysitting, so she put it out of her mind. After moving back to Vegas years later, she discovered Yoga Zone on the Health Network cable channel. Alicia recalled, “I was immediately hooked. For months I practiced yoga every morning at 6 AM on my living room carpet. But that only sufficed for so long. Soon I was practicing at a local yoga studio and not long after that enrolled in a yoga certification program so I could share my new found treasure with others.”
She’s has been happily teaching yoga now since 2002. However, a few years ago, her teaching and personal practice took a turn. She saw how yoga benefited so many with issues like stress and back pain, but on the other side of the coin she also saw those that group yoga classes weren’t appropriate for ‘treatment’. This twofold conundrum, along with imbalances in her own body after years of Vinyasa, led her to yoga therapy. Alicia said, “I knew that yoga safely applied specifically to certain conditions could offer a myriad of health benefits. I enrolled in Integrative Yoga Therapy in 2012, ten years after my initial certification, and have been going strong since.”
She has been practicing yoga therapy at the 500 hour level for the last couple of years and is just two assignments away from completing her 1000 hour Professional Yoga Therapist certification. She specialize in Anxiety/GAD/PTSD, MS and other neurological diseases, Breast Cancer Recovery and Structural Yoga Therapy (physical issues like back pain.)
“When I began my Yoga Therapy journey I could never have known how profoundly it would change my life and the lives of those I work with.” Alicia states.
