Spread Health…Wash Your Hands!

Spread Health…Wash Your Hands!

Spread Health…Wash Your Hands! Hand-washing is critical in maintaining the health of self and others.  You see, dirty hands transmit more infections than any other mode!  Just think of all the things you touch in a day…money, door knobs/handles, someone else’s ink pin, dishes in a restaurant, public or office phones, another person during a handshake, our hair, and a toilet handle for examples. Now imagine someone with a cold or the flu who used their hand to cover a sneeze but didn’t wash it after.  Yes, this person prevented airborne contagion.  Unfortunately they would spread their illness to anyone who touched what they touched with their germy hands. While we can’t practically wash our hands after every possible contagious contact, we can minimize the impact of dirty hands by washing them as frequently as we can or by using a hand sanitizer.  The CDC recommends sanitizers that contain 60% alcohol. According to the CDC, some of the most important times to wash are: before, during and after cooking...

1 Really ‘Smart’ Thing You Can Do Right Now For Huge Success

1 Really ‘Smart’ Thing You Can Do Right Now For Huge Success

1 Really ‘Smart’ Thing You Can Do Right Now For Huge Success Cynthia Bazin, President of SmartChic www.smartchic.me A few weeks back, my husband and I traveled to Bodega Bay, CA for a quick overnight getaway. On our way to Bodega, we were excited to stop at this great little diner we were told about to start off our weekend trip just right with a great breakfast. When we arrived at the diner, we both sat down at the counter. We had been driving for a bit, so we were ready for some good coffee.  Several minutes pass and who we believe to be our waitress, walks past us several times, making absolutely no eye contact.  She doesn’t welcome us or even acknowledge us (and no coffee was poured for us).  So after several minutes, as the waitress is speeding on by us and many others, I say “Excuse me, could we please have some coffee?” The waitress nods her head and serves each of us a cup of coffee.  No ‘Hello’  ‘How are you?’ or ‘How’s your...

THE MASSAGE ADVANTAGE

THE MASSAGE ADVANTAGE

“Today, approximately 50 million American adults are suffering from hypertension. The good news is, it is a preventable disease. Lifestyle changes and natural remedies can help you reduce stress and control your blood pressure. One way of preventing it is through massage therapy.Massage therapy is a safe, soothing and non-invasive treatment for high blood pressure. This is particularly true for people who are experiencing stress on a regular basis. Adults who are suffering from high blood pressure should aim to reduce their stress level so as to prevent rises in blood pressure. A study, which was conducted by the University of Florida, revealed that hypertensive patients who received 10 10-minute massages in a span of 3 weeks showed significant improvements in their blood pressure as compared to the other group who simply rested and did not receive any massages.”...

7 ‘Smart’ Ways to Live Your Brand Every Day ~ by Cynthia Bazin

7 ‘Smart’ Ways to Live Your Brand Every Day ~ by Cynthia Bazin

7 ‘Smart’ Ways To Live Your Brand Every Day   Cynthia Bazin, President of SmartChic   It is early in the morning and my alarm goes off.  It’s a brand new day.  A day full of opportunities and possibilities in which I have the choice to either run my day or let the day run over me. I make the choice to live life to the fullest each day, consistently trying to bring a high level of integrity and inspiration to others around me. In other words, I live my ‘brand’.  So…. What is your brand? Do you realize that you are a brand?  It doesn’t matter if you are in business for yourself or not. You are defined by who you are consistently every day. Have you ever thought about that? Who is it that you want to be? Are you living your brand?  Are you living the way you want to be? In my life, it is my determination and internal motivation that gets me up in the morning to go for what I really want in life.  I have learned that a lot of what I have...

The Massage Advantage ~The Thing I Do

The Massage Advantage ~The Thing I Do

The Thing I Do “So what exactly do you do?”, I was recently asked and stumbled to answer. Wasn’t the first time someone had that inquiry, yet I was hesitant to respond.   Defining my brand of massage is difficult, no easy answer like Hot Stones or Thai Massage that evoke clear images. No immediate imagery of hot black objects strategically placed on a back. No visuals of a therapist unfolding a client’s body on a mat. Like a paintbrush neglects to portray a specific artist, like a camera falls short of characterizing a certain photographer, massage techniques fail to distinguish the therapist.  And while the laundry list of my skills includes Sports, Deep Tissue, Trigger Point, Neuromuscular, Swedish, Reflexology, Orthopedic, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation, Therapeutic and Kinesio Taping, plus experience with professional athletes—tennis, basketball, boxing, wrestling—the list alone cannot describe what I do. So what exactly do I do?  Something more cerebral, more emotional, palpable yet intangible.  My massages are more holistic.  No, not in the sense of chanting or...

THE MASSAGE ADVANTAGE ~MASSAGE SAFETY TIPS~

THE MASSAGE ADVANTAGE ~MASSAGE SAFETY TIPS~

Massage Safety Tips My beloved profession, Massage Therapy, has suffered another black eye. First the ongoing battle to differentiate legitimate massage from prostitution. Now reports of a national massage chain covering up sexual misconduct perpetrated by male therapists (local channel 13, 05/01/14). It behooves me to offer massage safety tips. 1. Disrobe to your comfort level. If you want to keep your underwear on, then so be it. 2. Disrobe to the level of necessity. If you’re getting a foot massage then there is NO legitimate reason to remove anything other than shoes & socks/stockings. If the ‘therapist’ beckons you to remove more, refuse. 3. You should feel or sense where the Massage Therapist’s hands are at all times. Occasionally we disconnect to get hot towels or a stool for seated work or more massage cream/oil. You can tell when this is the case. Otherwise, the therapist should have both hands on you. 4. If you are deliberately touched in an inappropriate way (accidents do happen), then your intuition...
